ANNOUNCEMENT:
The Dublin Thunder win the National Cup Championship in Ireland, the latest achievement in a string of successes for European teams outfitted by Intrepid Sportswear.
SEATTLE - Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 - After a surprise invitation to compete in the Basketball Ireland Men's Senior National Cup, the Dublin Thunder - a new member of the European Friendly Basketball League (EFBL) - clinched the title. The Thunder look forward to taking their talents to the Irish National League or Superleague as soon as the young team becomes eligible.
"Our acceptance into the National League Cup was a shock also to us," Dublin Thunder Head Coach David Baker said. "But we all have the same goal and that is to play at the top level as soon as possible."
After winning the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Trophy and the Belfast ESPN Invitational Tournament in 2011, and the National Cup first thing this year, the team must now turn its attention and focus to the rest of the EFBL season, where they sit atop their league with a current 29-game winning streak.
Seattle-based Intrepid Sportswear, the company whose threads the Dublin Thunder represent on the court, expressed their pride in the Thunder's most recent achievement.
"Big congrats to the Dublin Thunder on their Irish National Cup Championship!" Founder/President of Intrepid Sportswear Rob Grabow said. "Basketball continues to grow as an international sport and especially so in Europe. We're proud that a growing number of teams have chosen Intrepid Sportswear as their uniform vendor of choice."
In November 2011, Baker reached out to Intrepid Sportswear as he sought to build more support for the team. Seeing an opportunity to support a new club, Intrepid Sportswear donated a set of team uniforms to the Thunder. In light of the team's recent success, Baker admitted, "In our first year, we are doing the best we can for a self-funded club."
Grabow says that the Thunder's on-court talent is only one of many reasons it is so deserving of sponsorship. The team partners with the Dublin Business School to offer scholarships to players pursuing a one-year masters degree program - including housing and the opportunity to play for the school's basketball team, which has won back-to-back national championships. This year's team features four American players, and last year's team featured a player from Seattle, where Intrepid Sportswear is headquartered.
"This is truly a great team to be associated with, and I\'m proud to say we will be sponsoring the Dublin Thunder again next year," Grabow said.
Intrepid Sportswear produces uniforms for several European teams - including France, Croatia, the Netherlands and Norway - many of which have experienced recent success. The British Basketball League's Guildford Heat, who came on board with Intrepid in December 2011, have won five of their last seven games. Offering high-quality, professional-grade uniforms for some of the best prices around the world, Intrepid Sportswear hopes to expand its European market even more over the next few years-and potentially inspire even greater success on the court.

ANNOUNCEMENT:
SEATTLE - Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 - Intrepid Sportswear has hired 180 Communications to handle its PR and media relations efforts. The sports/fitness communications firm, founded by former Sports Illustrated Editor Don Yaeger, will focus on raising awareness for the Seattle-based company\'s custom-made sports apparel and various give-back programs.
Intrepid Founder/President Rob Grabow, who recently was named to the Puget Sound Business Journal\'s 2011 \"40 Under 40\" list in recognition of his business leadership, explains this new partnership comes at a key time for the company.
\"We are implementing cool new outreach programs on a regular basis and growing quickly in the U.S. and abroad,\" Grabow said. \"Just last month, we expanded our European presence by getting our first UK-based team on board with us. This is a really exciting time for Intrepid, and we want to get the word out about everything that\'s happening.\"
VP of Corporate Communications Lee Gordon explains Intrepid\'s story is what initially caught the attention of 180 Communications - which is known for working with sports- and fitness-related niche companies nationwide.
\"There is no shortage of team uniform companies out there, but you\'ll be hard-pressed to find one that gives teams and players the same personalized experience that Intrepid offers,\" Gordon said. \"They are exactly the kind of company Team 180 likes to work with.\"
Grabow attended Gonzaga University with a plan to get a business degree and a dream of playing basketball. When he got cut from the team, he went to play for a semi-pro team in Australia. Things changed when he tried on his Aussie team uniform (which he loved) and realized quality and comfort didn\'t have to be sacrificed for a lower price. He returned to Gonzaga, founded Intrepid in 2002 and started small by selling uniforms to high school coaches attending Gonzaga basketball camps.
Intrepid has served nearly 6,000 professional, college, high school, and youth teams in Europe and all 50 states - providing custom-made uniforms at about half the price of leading manufacturers. Each year, the company also sponsors selected teams, donates apparel, supports local charities and rewards overseas workers through a profit-sharing program.
\"We typically allocate 5-10 percent of our annual net income and distribute it evenly among workers in the form of bonuses,\" Grabow said. \"It\'s the right thing to do. Without them, our company, our passion, and our dream of making the team apparel industry more efficient would be a true-life Mission Impossible.\"

ANNOUNCEMENT:
After a lifetime of learning and mentorship from Coach Steve Caciari, Coach Keenan Hollister will lead his own team against Coach Caciari in their first official head-to-head match-up.
SEATTLE -- Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012 -- Before becoming head coach of the women\'s varsity basketball team at North Pole High School in North Pole, Alaska, Keenan Hollister learned about the ins and outs of basketball from Steve Caciari, who taught at Keenan\'s elementary school along with Keenan\'s mother. Since the days of shooting hoops with Steve in the gym after school, Keenan has gone on to learn from Steve how to coach -- from coaching fifth and sixth grades as a high school student to coaching a women\'s JV team after finishing his degree in Physical Education at the University of Idaho.
On Saturday, Jan. 28, the women\'s varsity basketball teams from West Valley High School (Fairbanks, Alaska) and North Pole High School (North Pole, Alaska) will meet in a head-to-head coaching match up that will pit mentor against mentee. Keenan and Steve\'s teams will meet for the first time in an official game.
\"When I did my student teaching at Denali Elementary School (where Steve has taught since 1991), we would share plays during our free time, drawing up plays on white boards,\" said Keenan. \"We often joke that, if we had known we would coach against each other, we would not have shared so many secrets with each other.\"
Though Keenan learned much from Steve about the game of basketball and coaching, he has also forged his own identity as a head coach. Since meeting Intrepid Sportswear Founder and President Rob Grabow, when Grabow was still running the company \"out of his college closet\" (as Keenan puts it), Keenan always knew he wanted his teams to wear custom-made Intrepid uniforms.
\"Every one of my teams I\'ve ever coached has worn Intrepid,\" Keenan said. \"We ordered it before we even had a gym lined up to play in or games scheduled. I wanted Intrepid Sportswear because I knew their prices would beat out any prices out there.\"
Aside from his choice of uniforms, Keenan has also created new coaching opportunities for himself. In 2009, Keenan took a break from coaching girl\'s basketball to create and coach the Alaska Flight Boys All-Star Teams, featuring the best boys basketball players from around the state of Alaska. Keenan\'s pioneering ways have also led him to create or develop basketball programs such as ones at the Effie Kokrine Charter School or with the Fairbanks Grizzlies.
Perhaps testament to the closeness of the community, some of Keenan\'s former players on those same Fairbanks Grizzlies teams he coached are now playing at West Valley High School under Steve. \"To be real good in this coaching business, your practices have to be precise with emphasis on team building, skills and sport specific fitness--and then apply your practice session to game situations,\" said Steve. \"Keenan does just that, and that is why he is doing a great job as a coach.\"
On Saturday, Keenan\'s team will be wearing their custom-designed uniforms from Intrepid Sportswear--just as the nearby Nanooks from the University of Alaska Fairbanks men\'s basketball team also do. While the look of a team\'s uniforms can certainly impact the flow and outcome of a game, all eyes will be on the coaching match up on Saturday between the two men, whose basketball connections over the years have now led them to become great friends.
